Abstract

This research aims to determine differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts of students who learn using the Discovery Learning model and students who use the direct learning model and Differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts between students who have high, medium and low initial abilities. The influence of the interaction between the learning model and initial abilities on students' ability to understand mathematical concepts. This research is a quasi experiment. The population in this study was class VIII SMPN 6 Malingping. The results of the analysis show that H0 and H1 are rejected, meaning that there are differences between students who learn using the discovery learning model and students who use direct learning and there are differences in the ability to understand mathematical concepts in terms of initial mathematical abilities. While H0 is accepted, this means that there is no interaction between learning treatment and the category of students' initial mathematical abilities on their ability to understand mathematical concepts
